Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions I get asked the most. Please contact me for more information, pricing, and scheduling.

I will answer your call, text or email within 24 hours.

Do you have a pricing sheet available?

I do not have a pricing sheet in my promotional materials. I DO have SET PRICING for my home and group sessions, but I like to discuss the details of this in person. There can be factors such as travel time and preparation on the practitioner's part based on the type of music therapy intervention used for each client. I do use my set rates most of the time.

Do you have a space where clients can come to you, or do you have to come to my home?

Mountain Brook Music Therapy was born out of the tremendous boom in home care services over the past decade. We all do so much better recovering and managing illness or disease when we are in the comfort of our own home.

I do not have a space where clients come to see me. I provide in-home music therapy sessions, or group sessions at assisted living or skilled nursing facilities. My experience has been that once we have our first in-home session together, clients become very at ease with the idea and welcome the notion that they do not have to leave the comfort of their home for quality care.

Are you licensed and insured?

Providing in-home care requires careful planning and consideration. My business is fully insured. While there are currently no licensing requirements for music therapists in Alabama, I am nationally certified through the Board Certification for Music Therapists. Please visit www.cbmt.org for more information regarding the certification process for professional music therapists.

Do you have to have a college degree to be a music therapist?

YES! A professional music therapist holds a bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy from one of over 80 AMTA approved colleges and universities. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Alabama. The curriculum for the bachelor's degree is designed to impart entry level competencies in three main areas: musical foundations, clinical foundations, and music therapy foundations and principles as specified in the AMTA Professional Competencies. In addition to the academic coursework, the bachelor's degree requires 1200 hours of clinical training, including a six-month supervised internship. Graduate degrees in Music Therapy focus on advanced clinical practice and research. Please visit musictherapy.org to learn more.

What are your hours of operation?

Mountain Brook Music Therapy sees clients M-F from 8:30- 2:30 and is closed on weekends and holidays.
